140 years, six watches and one anniversary:
the IWC Vintage Collection - Jubilee Edition 1868-2008
Ingenieur Automatic
If in 1955 the 8531 calibre in the first Ingenieur stood for ruggedness and reliability and created a furore among its contemporaries, then today the IWC-manufactured 80000-calibre family with Pellaton winding and an integrated shock absorption system is its natural advancement. This ultra-precise and extremely robust mechanism, which is at the heart of the new line of Ingenieur watches, is also the driving force behind the Ingenieur Automatic in the vintage style.Under the antireflective sapphire glass encircled by the 42.5-millimetre case is a superbly reduced dial with dot-and-line markers – the dot is luminescent – and dauphine hands. The modern version of this monument in the history of watchmaking omits the soft iron case found in the original but does provide an impressive view of the IWC-manufactured movement. Thanks to a screw-in crown, the Ingenieur Automatic is water-resistant to 12 bar and is well equipped to meet all the exacting demands of modern-day life.
As in all the models of the IWC Vintage Collection, the platinum version is limited to 500 watches, although the stainless steel version is unlimited.
